World T20 2010 - A few comments and thoughts of mine!!
n e way, after around 2 weeks of play, we are now on the eve of the 3rd ICC T20 world cup... and wat a season it has been... some of the most unpredictable events have occurred..
any way as a sri lankan, disappointed that we cud not get into the finals, and then as an asia yet again disappointed that not a single asia country was able to get into the finals!!! damn... wat a blow to the cricketing continent.... last two years winners were asians and an asian nation could not get into the finals at least in the 3rd year... reason??? OH THERES SOO MUCH...
ill take each country in order of exit from the tournament...
Afghanistan
yes.. u heard me correct.. Afghanistan.. the champions of the World T20 qualifier... another asian country... played some good cricket in the group stage matches, but sadly cudnt win even one match... yet they showed some good chances of coming back next year.....
Bangladesh
the lads in green... a team than has been in the show for sumtime nw, wonder wat happened to them.. they had a pretty good chance of getting into da super 8 round but screwed it up themselves i wud say...
India
oh... the largest cricketing nation eh??? yeah... if not.. but cudnt win a single match in the super 8 rounds... what can be said about them?? well personally i wud say that they lacked team spirit, dedication and were totally unfit... then scraped thru to get into the super 8 round but sadly, cudnt match the performance of the opposition in all their matches... even that, they had a good chance of getting into da semi's by defeating
SL by a good margin, but didnt even do that, thanks to some pretty good bowling and batting by the SL's.. India's captain, captain cool MSD was quick enuf to put the blame on the IPL but i dont think he can get away with it soon... rumors have already started spreading that he is to be replaced for the t20 and ODI teams.... anyway, there've been no reports of houses being burnt yet, so think its still calm there in india...
Sri Lanka
yes.. Sri Lanka.. last years finalists and runners up.... started the tournament with a good performance but a dissapointing result... but won their other match to get into the super 8 thanks to a ton by Mahela... did exceptionally well in the super 8 matches too except in dat match against da kangaroo's. especially in the match against india, were when the indians started to celebrate when the top order collapsed, the middle order came in and did a good job in winning the match.. mathews, sanga, dishan.. and talking of dilshan, altho he had a bad IPL and a bad start in da tournament, was nice to see he was able to get his form back in da last 3 matches played.. mathews on da other hand, exceptional.... spcially on da india match and da semi's against england where he save SL from being given a humiliating defeat. and then kapugedara, chandimal and perera did some good stuff wit da batting too... the bowling was also good. altho murali started well had to return back due to injury, the others took it on well.. malinga, mathews, mendis, randiv, kulasekara, welagedara, thusara all did a good job.. almost everyone in the squad contributed in some way or the other.. all except the Hon. Member of Parliament Sanath Jayasuriya. 15 runs in total, and gave away 52 runs for 7 overs in bowling.. and wat does he say?? he wants to play till the next world cup coz he's in good form... COW DUNG i say!! its pretty much time nw for him to leave the team nw... celebrating his 41st birthday next month, he's being one of the most talked about person in facebook i wud say... abt he retiring that is... dont want to talk more abt him coz ive had enuf... and then mahela.. wat can i say... all thanks to that one match in the IPL where he opened batting and he's been exceptional since then... the highest run scorer in the tournament with 302 runs and can only be beaten by kevin peiterson he peterson get 101 runs or more in the final match tomorrow.. or else he stays right there at the top!! all in all, SL did their best, but if we had one more good in form played in the team, we could have done a bit more!!
Pakistan
a t20 world cup champion in the past, scraped thru to get into da super8 and then again scraped thru to get to da semi's... then did an extreamly good job in their semi's match but werent good enuf for the kangaroos who chased down their mammoth score of 191 runs to win the game and qualify for the finals game. one of the teams that i dont like altho... these buggers actually thought that the ausi's wud stop their chase after it was evident they wud loose but then learnt a good lessson from it... kangaroo's didnt giv up... dumb donkeys thinking like that.. they derserved it i wud say...
n e way, with all da asians out of da tournament, the finals is not going to b an interesting match... i mean who wants to see a match between england and ausi eh?? they play against each other half of the year and nw again? gosh no thanks.. i wud say studying wud b more interesting than watching dat match..
on the other side, this is da first time since 2004 that england has reached the finals of any international cricket tournament.... so i think they deserve to win the tournament rather than the cheating kangaroos... the worst ever team in cricket..
now that its all over, its back to studies i guess... the picture next says it all.. "Changing Lives".. gosh... dont they do that??? change da lives of millions of students around the world!!! GOD!!!n e way next up is da two matches in USA and then the Zimbabwe triangular... Dilshan and Mathews are said to b appointed capt and vice for that tour while the seniors are to be rested... hope da MP is also rested permanently with this....
