Google Instant Search

So you guys probably heard about this sometime back but today its official!!!

Google, the search GIANT has rolled out a new product in their search line up... the launch event is still going on at the time iam writing this post... but the main topic is done... its launched!!! Get ready to welcome Google Instant Search...

Now for those who don’t know what in the world am talking about here you go...

Google Instant Search is a modification of the Google search engine whereas before you type the search team and press "Search" button or press enter to search whereas now, all you gotta do is to just type in and it will start searching and while you modify your search criteria, it keeps modifying the results shown in real time!! And best of all - NO RELOAD OF PAGE!!!

This is cool... seriously!!! You gotta try this... but then at the moment its only limited to those people who have a google account... so login thru your google account then go to www.google.com/instant to activate Instant Search for your account.... Chrome n Firefox browsers seem to be the best browsers it seems to be working with as I have tested... IE doesn’t seem to be impressive... don’t have Safari or Opera installed so can’t check them although the reports coming in say that they seem to be working on them too…

The Instant Search is currently working on computers only… and those with a mobile phone will have to wait for some time… and its not long… according to the live event that is currently going on, the mobile version is to be launched in the Fall season which starts end of September.. so only a few months wait... and for those who cant wait, a test version of the site is also available as of now but i dont know if it will stay on for long as i think it is up only temporarily for display purposes today.. but then who knows.. it myt stay on...

I still dont know the back end process of how this thing works but then my guess is that google (who seem to have some really great employees) has made a system which takes their predicting system that was there for quite a long time now and integrated it with search.. this is probably done with AJAX where the this is updated according to the search criteria at the same time providing suggestions also.... AJAX can do wonders!!! and this seems to be one of it (if this thing works on AJAX). im pretty confident this works on AJAX coz i jst chkd da instant search results thing with JavaScript turned off n the thing doesnt work... n i turn it on and works again... so my best is that this thing works on AJAX or who knows if they have found out sum new methods in HTML5. after all this is Google... not Microsoft or Yahoo!! (anyone still using Yahoo?? ive even forgotten how the homepage of yahoo looks :P:P:P).. 

so long for now.. will update this post if anything new comes up about instant search... until then...

When was the last time you went to a party/event and had a great time without having to pose with your friends for 10 different photographers?? When was the last time you went to a concert and was able to enjoy the show without your view being blocked by around 25 photographers?? Its obvious that Sri Lanka has gone through a "DSLR" boom and all the rich kids who used to own a decent digital camera now run around with a big ass camera of which they dont event know how to use 90% of the controls. And then there is the photography craze. Any event you go, there's at least 5 photographers from 5 different "online media" taking your pictures and publishing them god knows where. Seriously, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO PRIVACY? Any event you go to now a days, you have photographers. Photographers trying to beat the other photographer in getting that special shot that would get people to come to "their" facebook page and click "like" on it.

11/11/2010 - The Day That Colombo Went Underwater!!

its been long since i wrote so decided to write something to write!! and indeed its a very interesting topic to write about!!! and as the title suggests im writing abt the day that Colombo, the Financial Capital of Sri Lanka was submerged in water after just 10 hrs of rain!!! what a day it was!! it all started on the 10th of November at around 8.00pm i guess when it started with a mild rain and then the thundering started.. along came the lightening also which is obvious (:P)... then the rain started to grow gradually... by around 11.00pm the thundering and lightening stops but not the rain which shows no signs of stopping... colombo goes to sleep... come next day and colombo wakes upto the news that Colombo has come to a half halt as many areas in Colombo have gone underwater due to the rain... roads all blocked.. schools closed after children come to skool in the morning for the term tests (term tests for public skools were to start on this day).. offices closed.. vehicles floating

2017 Sri Lankan Holidays - Google Calendar ICS File

Its nearly the end of 2016 and as usual I was trying to find the Sri Lankan Holidays calendar for 2017 to add to my work and personal calendars. But unfortunately, I couldnt find one. So, I decided to make one on my own. Thankfully, some good guy out there ( I really cant remember his name) made this calendar for a few years which I've been using so I just copied the old events to a new calendar and changed their dates according to the dates published on the holidays list by the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs ( http://www.pubad.gov.lk/web/index.php?option=com_latestdocument&documenttype=8&lang=en ) So, here you go. Download the ICS file from the link below and just import it into your calendars add the holidays. The calendar is set to Sri Lanka as location and GMT 5:30+ as the time zone.
